How to use
- Choose the language and the time. The SSC skill test is 10 minutes.
- Untick Allow Backspace if your exam does not allow it.
- Start typing in the box. Correct words turn green and wrong ones turn red.
- When time is up, see your net speed, gross speed and accuracy.
How speed is counted
English: every 5 keystrokes, including spaces, count as one word. Gross speed is all words typed per minute. Net speed takes away one word for every word with a mistake.
Hindi and Bangla: one letter can take several keys, so speed counts whole words. Net speed counts only the correct words.
Speed needed in common exams
| Exam | English | Hindi |
|---|---|---|
| SSC CHSL (LDC / JSA) | 35 WPM | 30 WPM |
| SSC CGL (Tax Assistant, DEST) | 8,000 key depressions per hour | - |
| Railway NTPC (clerk / typist posts) | 30 WPM | 25 WPM |
Rules change between years, so check your notification. For Hindi and Bangla, install a Unicode keyboard (such as Inscript or Google Indic) on your computer before you start.
How to improve
- Practise 15 to 20 minutes daily rather than for hours once a week.
- Look at the screen, not the keyboard. Keep your fingers on the home row (A S D F, J K L ;).
- Aim for accuracy first. Speed comes with practice.
Frequently asked questions
Which Hindi keyboard does this support?
Any keyboard that types Unicode Hindi, such as Inscript, Remington GAIL or phonetic Google Input Tools. Old Krutidev fonts are not Unicode and will not match.
Why is paste blocked?
So the result shows your real typing speed.
Is this the same as the real SSC test?
It counts speed the same way, but the real test uses its own software and passages. Use it to practise and track your progress.
Can I practise on a phone?
Yes, but exam tests are on a computer keyboard, so practise on one if you can.
